After receiving a lot of flak and mired in controversy regarding marking in practical exams of board classes, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has drawn a plan that employs Information Technology (IT) to ensure transparency. The RBSE plans to engage high-tech monitoring system for practical exams in schools and along with simplifying the examination process for the next academic year.

The Board drew severe criticism including practical exams for Board classes were held without science labs and instruments. An examination of the previous year’s board exams showed that students scoring a mere 20 to 30% marks in main examination managed to score 100% in the practicals. Another area of concern was examiners demanding money to give favourable marks in practical examination.

The new measures now require schools to file additional information besides filing the examination application online for the 2017 Boards. The additional information will pertain to the infrastructure available for science labs, capacity of these labs and number of students appearing in different subjects, said Meghna Choudhary, secretary of RBSE.

Schools will also be required to file the material requisition form online to inform the government the requirement of materials for practical examinations like drawing sheets, graphs etc. The Board will then provide all the materials to a nodal school from where different schools will be responsible to collect their respective materials. "The purpose of such system is to ensure proper practical examinations," added a source in the know.

Additionally, the board has instituted measures for the security of answer booklets and hence a system has been instituted to track the movements of answer sheets online at different answer sheet collection centers in state.

Plans are afoot at RBSE to start a new collection center in Government Senior Secondary School at Khatipura in Jaipur. Previously, there was only one collection center at Shiksha Sankul of Jaipur.
