The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is generally painted as a right wing organisation with an agenda to saffronise everything in sight. However, the latest proposal mooted by the organisation will surely make you adjust your paint brush and the paint too.

Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan (VBABSS), an RSS organisation, has submitted a proposal to the Madhya Pradesh government which will enable them to loan teachers from about 1,000 Saraswati Shishu Mandirs (SSM) to nearby government primary schools. The education department has welcomed the idea, citing the “excellent track record’’ of the organisation, especially in rural areas.

If the state BJP government gives its nod, it would mean that the teachers from SSMs will be able to teach pro bono in government primary schools.

“We run several sanskar kendras and students attend them after school hours. Now we plan to teach them during school hours, with permission from the government and the school in-charge. Though the idea is to focus on mathematics and language, the traditional weak spots, we will also introduce cultural activities, if permitted, that are common in SSMs,’’ said Madhya Bharat chief of VBABSS Ramkumar Bhavsar.

After conducting a pilot run, the plan is expected to be rolled out in 1,000 schools in a few months.

“The organisation has an excellent track record in rural areas. We have no hesitation in accepting the proposal, but the proposal is yet to reach me,” said Minister of State for School Education Deepak Joshi.
