As America is gearing up for the presidential election in November, a section of Uttar Pradesh is also gripped with US presidential election fever. A group of students in UP is praying for the victory of Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.
Students from a group of educational institutes named after Clintons in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh are endorsing Hillary Clinton by wearing “I support Hillary” badges and making supporting speeches for her. The students have also created a video to show their support.
Hillary Clinton Nursing School and Hillary Clinton Institute of Paramedical Sciences are run by Vinod Gupta, a close friend of the Clintons. The 35-acre campus is under the Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation and the campus is named Ramrati Education Complex (REC) after Gupta’s mother.
“I want to convey my moral support and good wishes to Hillary Clinton for the elections. I have also made posters to support her bid to become the first woman president of a world power like the US. This will set an example for women in other countries too,” Mansi Pundir, a class 9 student of Bill Clinton School, told
The said educational complex was started back in 2000 with Ramrati Women’s Polytechnic (RWP) being the first institute on campus. In 2001, Bill Clinton had visited RWP. Vinod Gupta was planning to start other institutes in the complex and had decided to name them after the Clintons.
Gupta went to establish the Bill Clinton School and Hillary Clinton Nursing School in 2006 and 2007 respectively. However, the polytechnic was later shut down. The Hillary Clinton Institute of Paramedical Sciences is expected to open soon.
“Empowerment comes with education, independence comes with job and status comes with politics. Hillary is at the third level and with the political knowhow she has, she has an edge over others. I have met her in person and I believe that she supports women empowerment just like we do,” Raj Kamal Saxena, president, REC, was quoted.
