Cinema has a great impact on people and film stars are a big influence in our life. Hindi movies, their stars and the characters they play  have a larger than life influence on almost each one of us, directly or indirectly. 

Here we look at some teachers from Hindi films who have motivated us with their characters:

Vinod Khanna in Imtihan ("The Test")

In this 1974 film, Vinod Khanna plays the role of Pramod Sharma, an idealistic professor who decides to reform a group of rowdy students in a college. It is inspired by the 1967 British film To Sir, with Love, and has inspired the television series Jeet. The film was shot in Nashik.

Jitendra in Parichay ("Introduction")

Jitendra plays tutor to 5 spoilt children in this 1972 film based on a Bengali novel, Rangeen Uttarain by Raj Kumar Maitra. Inspite of all their tactics to make him abandon the job, he succeeds in forging friendly relations and reforming them. 

Abhi Bhattacharya in Jagriti ("The Awakening")

Abhi Bhattacharya essayed the role of Shekhar in this 1954 movie and won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. He tries to instil good values in the students using unorthodox teaching methods. He gains the students' trust and educates them about the heritage of their country and encourages them to become model citizens.

Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par ("Like Stars on Earth")

Aamir Khan stars as Ram Shankar Nikumbh in this 2007 film, who helps his student Ishaan overcome his disability. He also co-directed and produced this movie. Darsheel Safary stars as eight-year-old Ishaan, and Khan plays his art teacher.

Amitabh Bachchan in Black

This 2005 film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali draws inspiration from Helen Keller's life and struggle. Amitabh Bachchan plays Debraj Sahai, an elderly alcoholic teacher for the deaf and blind who helps Michelle McNally (played by Rani Mukerji), a blind and deaf woman overcome her disabilities.
