Shamanur Education Trust's (SET) 2 institutes Smt Pushpa Shamanur Mahalingappa Residential School and PU Science College, Devenagere will adopt 65 students of economically weaker sections this year to impart PU education to them and prepare them for competitive exams like K-CET, JEE (main and advanced), AIPMT etc.

Speaking with the press on Monday, H Mahalingappa, chairman of the SET said the Trust has been actively working since past 13 years in Davanagere and engaged in various social works. This year the Trust is increasing the number of adopted students from 25 to 65 to provide free food & shelter along with special coaching for 2 years. For general students, the same 2-year education would set them back by around Rs 2.80 lakh.

65 is a small number to make a dent in the socially backward class of India. However, to ensure that this help will be provided to truly deserving students, a selection process will be followed where examinations will be held in different centres based on SSLC syllabus. An exam was conducted on April 10 and there are 4 more slots for exams – April 17 & 24 and May 8 & 15. All examinations will be held on Sundays at 11am.

For additional information the SET is reachable by calling 08192-264960 or logging on to www.spsmrs.org. Trustee TM Somashekharaiah and principal C Kannan graced the press conference with their presence.
