Recently, we at ScooTalks have had a gala time enjoying the annual functions. Now as the winters approach, when sunny days seem pleasant, students of most of the city schools are seen practicing on the school grounds for their sports day events.

Team ScooTalks had recently landed at one of the most prestigious schools of the city,  Mahaveer Public School. The school was celebrating sports when we reached there, calling it their Sports Day; must say … perfect timing for us!

The event began with the school Principal, Ms. Rashmi Talwar, and board members welcoming Justice Nagendra Kumar Jain, the Chief Guest of the day. He was then given a warm and floral welcome by the student council. Principal Ma’am then took over the podium and presented the annual sports report. Encouraging the students, she said, “Learn any sport, but always focus on sportsmanship.” Wishing the students all the best for the day full of sports events, she further went on to say, “May the best man win but for us all participants are winners.” After the flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, the sports achievers of the school ran the entire ground and passed the torch/flame, symbol of positivity and unity among all students, to one another and finally to the Chief Guest who lit the school torch, who then declared the event open.

And with that began one of the most-awaited events of the school.

The day brought to the fore many athletes of the school as students participated in several races organized for Classes I to XII … races with a twist … captivating enough to engage all. Students of Class 1 participated in flower race where they had to pick up flowers on the way to finish line. There yet was another where the students came running to grab it, pass it through their bodies and run off to the finish line.

The sports ground was amped up as the relay races for senior students started. With the athletes making it a neck-to-neck competition, the audience definitely boosted for the best one to win, instead of cheering up for their houses only. 100mtr, 150mtr, relay races, team relay races … not single second could we manage to take our eyes off them!

Students in the audience with full enthusiasm were cheering for their respective houses, Bulbul, Hans, Mayur, and Neelkanth. Excitement was seen in students and teachers both. We too were energized to see the teachers compering being as enthusiastic as the participants and students in audience.

What added all the more to the excitement was the music playing in the background. “Chak de India…’’, “Waka waka”, “I will be stronger”.

Excitement doubled up as the athletics came to end making way for winner announcement! The entire sports ground saw students whooping as the announcements for winners were made. It was a blast as House Neelkanth was announced the winner, leading with 82 points!
