A rare yet a beautiful event – Schoolpex 2015

St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur certainly doesn’t believe in creating bookworms, they rather believe in nourishing students; they encourage children to explore new roads.

Not more than 10 years back children didn’t even have enough options for sports and extracurricular activities.  They were just made to sit in the same classroom for almost 6 hours where fun activities were constricted to break time only. Last pages of each notebook were all about extra-activities. And indeed, everything other than studies was just a waste of time. Quite some teachers too believed in the same. And then the scenario started changing gradually.

Coming a long distance since then, the scenario has changed a lot. And for good. St. Xavier’s School offers us a glimpse. The whole school was beaming with energy; you could see calm yet smiling faces at every corner. Yes! It was the beginning of Schoolpex, the 19th inter-school state-level stamp exhibition that was organized by the school in collaboration with Philatelic Society of Rajasthan.

You already know … You’ll always find us with children. We just love interacting with these little minds.

The three-day event, starting from 15th to 17th October was inaugurated by the HQ Sh Dushyant Mudgal, Director Postal Services IPS, who felicitated the students as the Chief Guest. He also released a special 'My Stamp' that consisted the painting of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and a booklet with a picture of Dr. Kalam on its front page. Stamp Exhibition, Quiz Competition and workshop and PSR meeting were the three major activities under Schoolpex.

Stamps? Really?

Well yes! Quiet a good number of children do like collecting stamps and gathering knowledge about them, the countries they belong to, the year their stamps were released, and much more. But often they don’t get a platform to showcase their talent. However, the collective effort of St Xavier’s School and Xavier’s Philatelic Club, under the young President, Tanmay Goyal, and Philatelic Society of Rajasthan gave these students a podium, a way to cherish their talent.

The Stamp Exhibition was all about showcasing the children’s stamp collection. It was divided into two categories; first a collection of stamps was displayed on the walls and second was Virtual Philately where the stamp collection was virtually displayed via CDs and Pen Drive.

Mr. Rajesh Paharia, General Secretary of Philatelic Society of Rajasthan together with India Posts, Rajasthan Circle set up a My Stamp Corner that gave students stamps with their own picture on it, which can also be used as post stamp while sending letters.

The workshop by Mr. P.M Bhargav was followed by a quiz competition which created a storm of energy and enthusiasm at the venue. Various schools including BVB Vidyashram , St Xavier’s School, Maharani Gayatridevi School, Mahaveer Public School, Sadhu Vaswani Public School, Ryan International School, Subodh Public School and Rukmani Birla Modern High School, etc., had participated in the workshop.

The first round of the quiz was entirely based on the knowledge delivered in the workshop. So, the students were asked to pay keen attention to what Mr. P.M Bhargav was about to elucidate. Basically, on-the-spot awareness of students was tested in the first round; while the second round consisted of general question related to stamps. No teams were formed to give equal opportunities to all students present there. Chance to answer the questions were given randomly, without team division.

The overall event was concluded with the PSR meeting, where members of the exhibition gathered together to discuss the upcoming activities, meanwhile Mr. P.M. Bhargav also gave his hearty congratulations to the members of PSR committee and congratulated them on the success of Schoolpex 2015.

The final vote of thanks was conveyed to Philatelic Society of Rajasthan, Xavier’s Philatelic Club, India Post Team, Members of PSR committee and the audience by Mr. Yogesh Bhatnagar and Mr.Rajesh Paharia.

To sum it up, an inspiring event!

ScooTalks Team congratulates all the participants and organizers and we hope to visit more events like these.
