13 girls in Haryana’s Rewari district students are on a hunger strike demanding upgradation of their school to senior secondary. Fouji Tej Bahadur who recently joined the hunger strike said the school where girls use to go is very far and they are harassed by youth while travelling to the school. Speaking to ANI, one of the girls in the hunger strike said that they fear harassment from youths of other villages, because of which they are demanding upgradation of their school up to Class XII.

The girls have been sitting on hunger strike since May 10th but no step was taken by the district education officials. ANI reported that 10 of them have been shifted to the hospital today after they fell unconscious during their hunger strike.

Around 86 students, studying in class IX and X in Gothda Tappa Dahina village, had earlier gone on an indefinite strike, demanding upgradation of their school. Speaking to PTI, village head Suresh Chauhan said that the girls in the village have to go to Kanwali village for higher education, which is located 3 km away, after Class X.
