Teach for India educator Kumari Shalini is trying to bring the joy of learning to children through crowdfunded “Project Umang”

Kumari Shalini works at Teach for India and is a “Didi” to 14 curious 5th graders. She teaches at IQRA English School, which is located at Shah-e-alam, Ahmedabad. The part of the city is dominated by low income families who struggle a lot in getting even the basics. The occupation of most families is home based businesses (car repair shops, retail shops and local business) which do not suffice their needs.

Through project “Umang” which literally means ‘Joy’ and stands for those little happiness and small joys which kids get to experience when they learn watching a video, she is trying to help them learn better and get more exposure to the world around them.

It is scientifically proven that video conveys more powerful message than written or verbal communication. If it happens with an adult, think about a kid.
