TEACH THEM RIGHT AND THEY’LL DO IT RIGHT

Habits, good or bad, depend on the environment we let our kids grow in. School is where children spend most of the time while growing up, so it is heartening to see schools beginning to do their part in inculcating good habits. Kendriya Vidyalaya, across the country has introduced a new subject "Compassionate Citizen", a programme designed to sensitise children towards animals and be kind to them.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, on 10th May presented the thought in front of all its schools saying that they should introduce the program prepared by the animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), as an extra-curricular activity without disturbing the stable curriculum.

“The course has been divided into 4 different sections – The amazing world of animals, Animals and their feelings, Changing time & changing minds and Making human choices” – an official statement read.

The programme will reach out to children between the ages of 8 to 12 and will teach how to take care of animals, about their behaviour and the problems that they face. The program has been accepted by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

"PETA has already distributed the educational resource materials in English and Hindi to all Kendriya Vidyalaya schools. The programme is available in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Malayalam and Telugu and can be made available in other languages, if needed," said PETA India CEO, Poorva Joshipura.
