A teacher in Kolkata was beaten-up by a mob … ask for reasons and you’ll be shocked.
The teacher, Kazi Masum Akhtar, was teaching the National Anthem to a group of students at a madarsa where he is the headmaster. The students were to perform National Anthem on the occasion of upcoming Republic Day. To further aggravate the matter, the clerics have also issued a fatwa as per which he’s banned from the madarsa till he starts wearing “traditional Muslim attire.” Now this traditional Muslim attire means that he should sport a beard.
And this mishap is from the city of Rabindra Nath Tagore, the one who had penned down National Anthem.
As per the clerics, the National Anthem is Hindutva and the Tri-color is anti-Islamic.
Constitutional rights.
Intolerance at par.
Unity.
These are some phrases and words being used these days that pop-up in our mind right now.
Well, this isn’t the first time that the madarsa headmaster has faced the wrath. A few months ago, in April say some other reports, he reportedly was creating tension by allowing music and women to play inside the madarsa campus.
With the headmaster now facing a fatwa, which in itself is illegal, the criteria of being a good teacher has probably changed! Irony! Now that reminds of the fact that he has also been nominated as the Best Teacher by State Government’s Shiksha Ratna Award.
