In what is probably a case where the Zilla administration is paying attention to the micro level in schools, the Thane Zilla Parishad has decided to install hand wash stations in all schools of the district that come under its purview.

The hygiene of school students holds a place of special importance, District Education Officer Meena Yadav said. She added that, it has been observed that there are no sufficient hand wash counters in schools as compared to the number of students enrolled here. Hence, it has been decided to install sufficient hand wash stations in the schools from this year.

Yadav expressed hope that this will inculcate hygienic habits and an appreciation for personal cleanliness in students which in turn will help them rid of health issues.

As a side, she said the Zilla parishad education department was committed to ensuring that no child was left out from school, and was working towards it. "We also plan to distribute books in schools to inculcate reading habits among the children and as per the need of the schools the books are provided," she said.
