Definitely, this little boy has never thought of taking a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. But then, some are God-gifted, while others work hard towards it. Arnav seems to be working to hone his skills that are gifted by God.

We recently had a chance to meet this shy yet naughty kid. Starting with a sweet cup of tea, we had a small chat with Arnav’s parents, Mr. Navneet Sharma and Mrs. Vandana Goyal. Just like every mother, Mrs. Vandana just couldn’t stop talking about her son; Arnav actually deserves it!

While Arnav enjoys kicking his punch bag and showing us his skills, Mrs. Vandana tells us some short incidents about Arnav’s Martial Experience and academic score. With a smile, she says, “His teachers are really proud to have him in their class.”

This exceptionally brilliant child, Arnav secured 2nd position in SOF (Science Olympiad) and 1st rank in Abacus, and when it comes to Tae-Kwon-Do, he is the youngest child with black belt. He also shares his interest in Cricket and Chess. Yet, ask him his preference, and the shy child jumps to say “sports”!

Let’s have a look at how was Arnav’s experience with Tae-Kwon-Do

How did you start with Tae-Kwon-Do and who inspired you? When did you start practicing?

Mom: I think he was three or three and a half years old.

Arnav: Dad forced me to join Tae-Kwon-Do, “Papa ne zabardasti bhej diya tha

Dad: Arnav was really scared of the Hulla-Gulla coming from the basement, he used to tell me “Papa kahi mat jana, mera bahar wait karna” and kept searching for me every few minutes. But time passed by and he started enjoying his Tae-Kwon-Do training by the time he was 4-years old. And what had actually forced me to push him to join Tae-Kwon-Do was his energy that he had in access! We were hunting for several activities to keep him engaged, yet he had a bundle of it by the end of the day!

What do you like best about Martial Arts? What makes you happiest about practicing it?

Arnav: Fights and Poomse Levels (12-13 steps)

Do you like Tae-Kwon-Do more than Cricket?

Arnav: 5 times better than any other sport.

Who are your favorite coaches? And why

Arnav: Sensei Shree Ram Sir. He has taught me other things like discipline, respect, not fighting, etc.

Dad: Sensei basically means Master, in Japanese Language. Martial Arts fights are all about skills, hard skills and techniques. It is about gaining physical strength and discipline.

Has Tae-Kwon-Do ever scared you?

The question brought an instant gloom on the child’s face.

Mom: There was this National Tae-Kwon-Do championship in which the minimum age group allowed was 8, and Arnav was only 4 at that time, reaching till the knees of his opponents. He started crying and told me “Mumma mujhe nahi fight karni”, he was too small to understand anything. We brought him back home.

Dad: But not to forget, ever since that one incident he never stopped his training and came out with flying colors.

Do you ever feel lagging or missing out on studies while participating in Tae-Kwon-Do events?

A playful smile was spread across Arnav’ face

Arnav: I don’t like Hindi.

Papa: He never lags behind, Arnav has a spark memory, but as he said he doesn’t really like studying Hindi.

Mom: We never received any complaints from Arnav’s teachers related to studies, all they would say is “he is always in the ground playing”. So ok for us if he is playing all the while and yet doing well in studies.

Well, to wind up, what do you like to do in you free time, other than Tae-Kwon-Do/Martial Arts?

Arnav: I like cycling, skating and cricket. I will be going for cricket classes from tomorrow.
