Maitri Purohit, a student of XI Sc. A, Maharani Gayatri Devi Girl’s School, recently attended a prestigious educational conference, Inspire Camp 2015, held at Manipal University, Jaipur. There she showed immense interest in Science, specially Physics, which had left many delegates and chair people surprised. An incident there left her pondering and she decided to share her story … Read below to read her experience:

I was one of the fortunate students who got the opportunity to attend the Inspire Camp 2015 at Manipal University, Jaipur. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for giving me this opportunity which has widened my vision in so many ways.

We got to see and listen to renowned scientists from all over India, namely Prof. S Lokanathan, who is a physicist from Bangalore, Prof. RS Sharma, Prof. BK Sharma, Prof. MK Pandit, Prof. Kumkum Garg, and so on. When I see such people I really get inspired to think big and work harder. I love science, especially physics and seeing how our school and the Government of India are focusing on science these days is very motivating. I'm looking forward to pursue a career in Physics. This camp has further enhanced my knowledge about the various branches of science and about fascinating things happening in the world of sciences.

Except getting guidance for my career, I also got to know many things relating to science.

I also got a chance to speak with Prof. BK Sharma, dean of the science department, MUJ about the various exams I should take after class 12. He warmly answered my questions and asked me which school I was from. As I mentioned MGD, he seemed a little surprised and said, ‘It is quite interesting to know that students from MGD are interested in Physics’. His reaction got me thinking about why people should have such perceptions about our school.

I think we could conduct science workshops, talks and invite scientists over as guest speakers. This will not only benefit the students but also make MGD known for its emphasis on science as a stream.
