The President of India Tweets a Thread on the Benefits & Execution of NEP 2020
President Ram Nath Kovind, in a series of tweets, explains the many benefits of the new National Education Policy and discusses effective educational reforms during the ongoing webinars of Shikshak Parv
The National Education Policy is, no doubt, all set to bring a revolution in the Indian education system. It is viewed as an important tool to help evolve our age-old teaching practices, especially during the pandemic.
COVID-19 outbreak has challenged our pedagogy so much that every aspect was uprooted and turned a straight 180 degrees. India definitely needed a plan of action, a new-age solution to the new-age problems, along with that a much-needed upgrade in the traditional classroom techniques.
Since its announcement, the policy has been much appreciated. Recently, it was the President of India, Mr Ram Nath Kovind, who applauded the efforts of newly named ‘Education Ministry’, and the team that worked for the development of NEP along with Education Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank.’
Mr President has been tweeting about the ongoing Shikshak Parv of 2020 that’s happening from 8-25 September, during which numerous webinars are being held to discuss the execution of NEP in depth.

NEP seeks to discourage rote learning and overemphasis on marks or grades. It seeks to encourage critical thinking and a spirit of enquiry.

Greater use of online facilities will also help overcome problems of shortage of faculty and other resources. Educational institutions should develop very good portals and apps to provide e-learning, e-library and other digital facilities.

One of the targets of the NEP 2020 is to increase the Gross Enrolment Ratio or GER in higher education to 50 percent by 2035. Technology can help in achieving this target.

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a major shift in Policy which will be of great help to students. This will digitally store the academic credits earned from various Higher Education Institutions so that degrees can be awarded, taking into account the credits earned by students.
