Nanda Prasty from Bartanda village in Odisha has been teaching under a big tree in his village for the last 75 years now. Without charging a penny, this grandfather is dedicated to teaching not only the children of the community but also the adults during the night classes.
What motivated Prasty was the fact that no one in the village knew how to sign their names. As a young boy, he then determined to teach the fellow villagers not just their respective autographs but also regular studies.
The sarpanch of the village told ANI, “He has been teaching for the last 75 years. He refuses any support from the government as teaching is his passion. But we’ve decided to build a facility where he can teach children in comfort.”
With no commercial help or volunteers from NGO, Prasty is still going strong after more than seven decades of mentoring the future of his village. It’s interesting to know that his present students are actually the great-grandchildren of his first batch.
