TYE throws up budding entrepreneurs in Hyderabad
With far more career options available these days, more school students choose to diverge from the beaten track. Like these would-be entrepreneurs from Hyderabad at the TiE Business Plan Competition, TYE.
Last Sunday saw several entrepreneurs in Hyderabad sweating it out for a business plan competition. So, what’s so extraordinary about that, you might wonder! Nothing really. Except that these business people were students of classes 9-12 from 25 schools across the city. And the B-plan competition was that organised by TiE Hyderabad under its TYE (TiE Young Entrepreneurs) programme.
In its third season this year, TYE put the participants through a rigorous test on different levels of entrepreneurship development. Participants were teamed up from different schools to take them out of their comfort zone, come up with business plans and, in the process, learn about business and life.
Interacting with some new, some well-established entrepreneurs, they learnt about striking the right balance to be successful not just in business but also in life. With all that they learnt, combining it with their own experiences, the teams then presented their business ideas and plans, each team giving a tough competition to the other.
At hand, to judge these budding businesspeople, were specialists like Prof Arun Pereira (Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Case Development), Syam Peela (InnoMinds) and Safir Adeni (Ineda Group). Also present at the event was Suresh Challa, president of TiE Hyderabad chapter, who, while announcing a funding of Rs 10L for prototype development, said, “TiE believes that today’s youth are tomorrow’s entrepreneurs”.
The judges finally declared Team InfraDetect winners, with Saranga Pagadala (Oakridge School), Cynthia and Alsmith Angelina (DRS International School), Mitali Ganeriwal (Glendale Academy), NSSS Anvesh (Lotus National School). The winning idea was a product to help protect eyesight while watching television.
The runners-up were Team MELIOR, which had Advait Modi (Meridian School), Vishal Ladha (Gitanjali School), Rafat (Naryana Junior College), Manasva Reddy (St Joseph’s Public School) and Aashna Golla (Open Minds – A Birla School). Together, they presented a sonic ray-based product that would help protect against mosquitoes.
Among the participants were students from some of the top schools of the twin cities of Hyderabad, like Narayana Junior College, Obul Reddy Public School, Oakridge International, Chaitanya Techno School, Open Minds – A Birla school, Kalpa School, Chirec International, Glendale Academy, CMR High School, Delhi Public School, Lotus National School, DRS International School, Future Kids School, Meridian School, and Gitanjali Senior School.
