Under a new initiative to improve the condition of state-run schools, thousands of government officers have been exhorted to adopt such schools. The initiative is called 'Ek Diwas Shalesathi' and will start July 7 onwards, an official attached to District Education department said today.

The program is a brainchild of Konkan Divisional Commissioner and will be implemented in 2 phases. Under the first phase, the officials were recently trained for their responsibilities.

Principal Secretary (Education) of Maharashtra, Nand Kumar, said that the initiative will require officials to be present in the school right from the start of the day and would require their 100% participation including the morning prayers and stay up to the lunch and also get involved in all activities.

"They should also teach the students," he added.
