Meera Bai, the human mystic is an epitome of women empowerment and reformation. She was born into Rajput conservative social strata, married into a local clan, but bent on being consumed by love for her deity Lord Krishna that finally led her to renounce her family life, defy social strictures and take to a life of free will and understanding. The celebrated lore of Meera was brought out in a dance drama by the talented students of Kshipra Path situated India International School in the Annual Cultural Extravaganza “Panache” held at The IIS University on Saturday.

The dance drama had the elements of tableau, folk and other dance forms that enhanced the production by way of a tale told in the most aesthetic manner. Meera’s own lyrics suffice in taking her story forward without additional inputs. Everything about “Meera” was ethnic- the Rajasthani costume, the music and the songs, the subtle stage setting where a flight of stairs leading to a platform often acts as substitute for a palace, a temple and so on. The Bidai song set to Rajasthani tunes and other Meera melodies like “Karna Fakiri…”, “Manmohan Kanha…”, “Sadhu yeh murdon ka ganv…” to name a few were akin to musical narration taking the story ahead.

The effective stage setting and convincing performance of the students took this dance drama to another level all together.

“Zeal” under which this dance drama was performed, is a display of all attributes honed by an IISian during his nurturing at school from dramatization to dancing from jazz band to singing, from oratory skills to etiquettes, from local to global exposure, IIS instills it all.

Through the cultural programme IIS has given an illustration of this Zeal through an anecdote of Meera Bai, the living legend from Hindu mythology that reinforces the fact that if one is strongly convicted to one’s goal then the cosmos also conspires.

The Director Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the Chief Guest Major General S. S. Negi and Guest of Honour Mr. Mohit Bundas IAS, an alumnus of IIS. The Principal Ms. Mala Agnihotri delivered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with elating the spirits of the audience and IISians.
