Keeping pace with the trend, Wit-Zone and St. Edmund’s School Malviya Nagar came together to organize MUN. And Jaipur found many orators, many debaters, who till date were quite hidden. Well, to talk of MUN, Jaipur found many delegates who had a cut-throat debating and were yet eager for more!

While describing the first edition of MUN at Edmunds, Secretariat General Anshita Yadav found it to be a pleasure to see such budding talents in the city. She in fact seemed impressed with many first timers participating in the event so aggressively!

Students from various schools of Jaipur debated under four different committees, UN HRC, GA-DISEC, WHO and LOK SABHA; moderators of each of these four committees took their own sweet time to explain each and every minute details and rules and regulations of MUN.

While students of committee UN HRC debated over Protection and Promotion of LGBT Rights, GA-DISEC was about ISIS and the various ways to curb it. Delegates of Lok Sabha discussed healthcare of refugees as WHO delegates discussed Security of Women in India at length.

While WHO had the most number of first-timers, it was also holding the best of discussions, where the delegates went beyond security issues faced in just Delhi, discussing women all over India, even the remotest of India and how women can ensure their own security instead of depending on our law-makers.

GA DISEC experienced, with many experienced delegates, some very heated discussions with fruitful results backing them. UN HRC, which was discussing LGBT rights, initially experienced not much of discussion and even complaints from the delegates about their topic being too narrow. However, day 2 and all the delegates here too were all perked up for further discussion.

Lok Sabha, going against the expectations of the committee, was the most substantive of all. Delegates of various countries discussed the issue of refugees and their well-being at length.

The first timers were seen hesitating right from Day 1, but with the moderators and repeaters helping them, even the first timers came out with great debating. However, it was a pleasing sight to see the student-delegates to come up discussing serious international issues with such enthusiasm and knowledge bank. Their enthusiasm was very much visible during the lunch and refreshment break, when they were expected to chill out but were still seen busy discussing the issues and presentation skills with their committee members and mentors.

The 3-day event ended with students, or call them delegates as per MUN rules, emerging a bit more confident, a bit more researched and a bit more of knowledge and experience! What was the most impressive was to see these young orators proving themselves right, sometimes taking a step back, all in good humor!
