India is a country with a rich and diverse culture, history, and heritage. It is also home to some of the finest educational institutions in the world, offering a wide range of courses and programmes in various disciplines and fields. India has always been a destination for students from different parts of the world who want to pursue their higher education and learn from the best.
To facilitate and promote the academic journey of international students in India, the Ministry of Education has launched the ‘Study In India’ portal, a dedicated website that provides comprehensive information about the Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The portal aims to attract international applicants who are interested in studying in India and re-establish India as a global hub of education.
The ‘Study In India’ portal is an ultimate guide for international students who want to explore the world of education in India with ease. It covers everything from course selection to visa assistance, and from admission process to post-enrollment support. The portal allows students to apply to multiple courses across more than 240 premier HEIs offering over 2,650 different courses. The portal also provides an integrated one-stop solution for the student registration and visa application processes.
The portal showcases academic programmes covering but not limited to undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral-level programmes as well as courses in Indian Knowledge systems like Yoga, Ayurveda, classical arts, etc. The portal also highlights the benefits of studying in India, such as affordable living expenses, quality education, cultural diversity, and global exposure.
The ‘Study In India’ portal is part of the government’s initiative to simplify the educational experience for international students pursuing their studies in India. India stands as the second-largest education hub globally, with over 1,000 universities and 42,000 colleges. It has also launched the New Education Policy (NEP) that strikes a balance between theoretical and practical learning, ensuring that students receive an education that aligns with global standards.
The launch of the portal was jointly inaugurated by Union Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on August 4, 2023. On the occasion, students from Russia, Thailand, Japan, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Korea who are currently studying in India presented souvenirs from their cultures as a token of respect to dignitaries.
Mr Jaishankar said that the launch of the portal was aimed at making India a hub of global education by welcoming students from diverse backgrounds. He added that the presence of international students would benefit domestic students as well, as it would connect them more closely to the globalising world and prepare them better for the global workplace. He also said that having students from other countries study with them would create a better understanding of their cultures, habits, traditions, and even thinking. He further said that when such students go back to their societies of origin, they truly become ambassadors of goodwill for India.
The ‘Study In India’ portal is a great opportunity for international students who want to pursue their higher education in India and experience its rich culture and heritage. It is also a step towards strengthening the ties between India and other countries through education and cultural exchange. To know more about the portal and how to apply, visit studyinindia.gov.in.
