Education department releases RTE admission figures: reveals only 65% seats reserved

This year only 65% seats are allocated for RTE and the number of schools too has fallen. Some recognised schools have also not blocked seats so far, all this has led to a delay in the admission process and anxiety in parents and schools.

The education department has released figures on the admissions and seat allocations under the Right to Education (RTE) this year. As per the final list, only 65% (658) seats have been reserved from 1017 private, unaided schools which is far lesser than the number of seats registered for admission last year.

The number of schools registered for RTE admissions this year has also dropped significantly compared to over 2500 private schools registered from Indore last year. A total of 210 schools from Indore urban- 2 and 169 from Indore urban- 1 have been given recognition for the admission this year by the education department. Similarly, 236 schools from Indore rural, 144 from Depalpur, 118 from Mhow and 140 from Sanwer have also been given recognition by the department.

301 schools from the registered school list have not allocated the seats for RTE admissions this year till date due to varying reasons. The procedure to apply online for RTE admissions has already started from June 23 and will continue till June 30, while the first online lottery will be held on July 7.

It is interesting to note that the mapping process of schools for the admissions is still going on and till date 959 schools have been mapped. "Now when the schools have declared the seats reserved under RTE, parents can apply for a school which falls in 3 km radius from their house," said Zila Panachayat CEO Varadmurti Mishra.

"Parents can select the school they want to apply in and approach the school, nodal officers or BRC's for online application of their child along with valid documents," added Mishra.

According to the Act, schools had to keep aside 25% seats of their entry level class vacant for the RTE admissions. After delays in the first phase of admissions, the education department is now trying to rush with the admissions as the delay has become a cause of concern for the parents as well as the schools.
