In the wake of increasing incidences of private schools forcing parents to buy non-NCERT textbooks from external authors across the country, the education department of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has set a glowing example for the rest of the country which is sure to warm the hearts of parents and students alike.

The education department has launched a dedicated WhatsApp number at which parents can directly report and complaint about private schools forcing them to buy expensive non-NCERT books and any other such pertinent issues.

In case of grievance a parent can lodge a Whatsapp complaint on + 91 7814197100 and an email plaint on dpi-chd@nic.in

Increasingly cases of many schools prescribing too many books and demanding that parents buy them were brought to the attention of the board and hence the CBSE in a notification last week asked schools to refrain from such practices, advising them to procure NCERT textbooks in bulk.

This move is well timed to coincide with the beginning of a new academic year soon. CBSE’s notification went on to declare that NCERT textual materials are the base for preparing test papers for Board Examinations.

The council also shared that it runs its own sales counters at Bhopal, Shillong, Ajmer, Mysore, Bhubaneshwar, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Guwahati and New Delhi from where schools can fulfil their textbook needs.

In fact, to facilitate smoother availability of textbooks, NCERT has awarded the copyrights to the textbooks to 8 states to print books according to the demand. Students can now also download textbooks for classes I to XII for free from epathshala.nic.in.
