IT exports have been a ubiquitous presence in India’s export basket for quite some years now. Though the government has over the years taken several measures to encourage the industry, this time it seems to be in the mood to give serious push to the industry. The Government has given itself the target of increasing the IT exports of the country b 100% to $900 billion by 2020. To be able to achieve this target, the education system would need at least a million teachers in the next 4-5 years according to Ninad Karpe, Director and CEO, Aptech.
Karpe was speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) seminar on higher education. “We need to prepare students to cater to the needs of the growing IT industry by using technology,” Karpe, who is also the Deputy Chairman of CII for the western region, said.
Due to the rapidly changing nature of the technology sector developing a responsive and dynamic curriculum poses a great challenge today. However, efforts to develop such a curriculum are increasing today, so are collaborations between the industry and the academic institutes.
He predicted that there was going to be a surge in demand for IT professionals even though there is a global industrial slump and an impending Euro crisis following the historic Brexit referendum.
Lastly, he spoke on emerging technologies where the IT industry was headed and areas where huge employment was being generated these days. He listed emerging domains like big data analytics, social media and internet of things (IOT) as the next big things.
He emphasised on IOT as the next ‘in’ career as over 40 billion devices need to be connected in the next 4 years in the country.
