Kerala’s All New ‘KOOL’ Open Online Learning Programme
KITE has released KOOL, an online platform to train teachers, students and the general public.
The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has released ‘KOOL’ – an Online Open Learning training platform. KOOL is useful for training teachers, students and the general public.
Next Month, the first batch consists of 2,500 teachers who will be trained. Registration for the same have begun.
As state schools become Hi-Tech, there’s an urgent need to train teachers and students on different domains simultaneously. Keeping this need in mind, KOOL was launched.
Based and designed on the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) model, KOOL has an array of features in the form of animated learning assistants, video tutorials and check lists for practicing the activities.
"KOOL is a major step by the State of Kerala to become India's first complete digital state in Education", remarked Prof C Raveendranath, state Education minister.
An an expansion of ‘Samagra’, KOOL is a six week course. It includes creating word documents, spreadsheet, presentation, image editing, video-audio editing, development of digital resources, Malayalam typing, internet, educational applications.
"We have 200 mentors with a capacity to train 4,000 persons at a time", said K Anvar Sadath, Vice Chairman and Executive Director, KITE.
As per the model, there will be one mentor for 20 teachers. And for teachers to clear probation, they’re required to successfully complete 45 hours of computer course.
A proposal has been submitted to the state government to seek approval to declare the KOOL Certificate acceptable for declaring the probation of teachers.
"KOOL would be the largest online training programme in the state. KITE has plans to introduce more courses in KOOL which would not only benefit the teachers and students, but for the general public as well," added Mr Sadath.
