Running towards the Right Direction with the Indian Blade Runner
The first Indian blade runner, he fought back against death to conspire against the all forces to live and live successfully. Not only does he live, he makes many others like him to live …
Kargil … fighting against Pakistan … blown off by mortar shell … eventually declared dead at the Army hospital.
Dead? No … a mere mortar shell couldn’t have killed him, the never-die spirit that he has! Fighting back against death, Major DP Singh came to life again, though his leg was amputated. Coming back from dead and how!
Students of Subodh Public School, Rambagh, got to spend some time with this source of inspiration, listen to him talk, interact with him, be inspired. This proud Army man not only won back his life, but is now the Indian blade runner, running marathons, inspiring other physically challenged people to stay strong and keep fighting!
With a few powerpoint presentation slides, and a jovial talk, he broke the ice and students had soon started listening to him intently. He had that ring in his voice … he had that zest in his voice … reverberating! He grabbed their interest. The students not just listened to him, but also were talking to him, laughing with him, asking him questions, enjoying with him … With an aura of positivity around him, he took the audience through his childhood exemplifying how he kept failing at various stages of his life, which pushed him to succeed.

It was a touché moment when in his effort to quench a query by one of the students, he explained how anyone who runs a marathon faces pain and troubles, but for him it was very easy for him as he hardly feels anything in left lower leg.
It surely is the concern that Subodh Public School has for its students that the school authorities invited Major D.P. Singh to the school to meet the students and get past any fears. To quote him, what leads to victory are the right attitude, passion, focused hard work, courage, a never giving-up attitude, prayers and blessings, sharing and taking everything in your stride along with determination. Boosting the morale of the students, he advised them not to take any failure as a setback, rather failures should be the driving force, each failure giving them yet another chance to perform better with perseverance.
As the clock ticked, it was almost his time to leave to inspire yet others, when he ended with some of the most motivational words.
The battle is within us
The failures are within us

The courage is within us
The victory is within us
It’s not the people, but you yourself you have to fight against, you yourself you have to prove to. Do it for you!
