ASCD, a nonprofit dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, is pleased to announce the inaugural Whole Child, Whole Person Summit in partnership with Boston College Lynch School of Education on October 22–23, 2017, in Boston. The two-day conference will address the need to refocus education on the whole child and the whole person while highlighting the work of ASCD and Boston College around this approach and preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose.

The Whole Child, Whole Person Summit will raise awareness for the need for education systems and schools to use a different methodology that expands the definition of academic achievement beyond content mastery and test scores. This practice develops individuals who are knowledgeable, emotionally and physically healthy, civically inspired, engaged in the arts, prepared for economic self-sufficiency, and ready for life after formal schooling. The Summit will provide participants with the rationale, motivation, understanding, and implementation steps to sustain a whole child, whole person approach to education.

"ASCD believes that the time is right to raise our collective voices to support a more holistic and humanistic approach to education that inspires imagination, improves the human condition, and creates a more just world," said Sean Slade, senior director of global outreach for ASCD.

"The Lynch School of Education looks forward to cohosting the conference with ASCD in October," said Stanton Wortham, Charles F. Donovan, S.J., Dean, Lynch School of Education. "We are a place that focuses on developing and understanding students as whole people. This is a way for us to share our vision with professionals who facilitate student success both in school and in life."
