A group of four 15-year-olds in the US have developed a business model for spreading awareness about COVID-19 among children through their Coronavirus-themed colouring books. Sofia Migliazza, Erin Rogers, Lauryn Hong and Ella Matlock from California have established ‘Be The Change Colouring Co’ that develops entertaining and fascinating approaches to reach out to kids by simplifying the facts about this virus which are still hard to understand for them.
In the first month itself, the girls managed to sell more than 500 copies and raised money for the relief fund for Coronavirus.
The source of the idea was the confusion that had been around the virus and its impact, so they decided to deal with these questions more effectively using colour and animations.
Lauryn Hong says, “We knew we wanted to do something for kids. We also knew we wanted to give back to the community. We considered doing a mask-decorating kit, but we decided on a colouring book because we wanted the kids to learn something. COVID is really confusing, even for us, and the colouring book is a way to keep them entertained and help them learn.”

It’s a 28-page book with different characters disseminating information about the virus. Characters Al E. Gator, Sam the Snail and Wally the Narwhal engage kids through games which are familiar to most of them, like Tic Tac Toe, Mad Libs and Maze. In addition, a children’s-sized mask is also included in the back of every book.
With every purchase, the consumer has a choice to donate 40% of the selling price to the relief fund. The group has developed and planned the entire supply chain and communication management with the consumer.
