Students of classes 5 and 6 of International School Aamby, Pune were taken for an educational excursion to British Council Library last week. The excited students and in-charge teachers of the day boarded the school bus at 9.30am; since it was a long journey of 2hrs, they had a bash in the bus, eating, singing and dancing throughout.
Reaching the library, one of the teachers, Ms Namrata showed them around the magazine, computer, audio-visual, etc, sections, followed by a reading session in the kids’ section. Post their lunch at Burger King, the students visited the Crossword book store, where, browsing through the various books, they couldn’t help buying a few.
Though it seemed to be a simple activity, the kids learnt a few things out of it. To start with, they learnt what library decorum is, along with learning about money management and cooperation with others in real life. The main idea to inculcate love for books and reading habits in children was well-achieved.
