While having restraints of COVID-19, Indian Government’s Education Department is still striving to make the best for the youth of the nation.

The HRD ministry is giving finishing touches to the draft of the New Education Policy (NEP) document, which is being planned to bring before the cabinet this month itself. The new academic year begins in September instead of the July-August period because of the lockdown and MHRD is considering formalising the policy before that only.

It has been maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reviewed the draft of NEP at the beginning of the month.

"There have been suggestions from MPs during discussions in Parliament with regard to the NEP and the Ministry has looked at all suggestions. The policy will be soon brought to the Cabinet," the sources told HT.

There had been concerns related to 'imposition' of Hindi among some states, which the HRD Ministry had assured to be addressed earlier. A panel of experts led by former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan had prepared the draft education policy.

Earlier, after the PM reviewed the education sector reforms, the government had said the focus was on bringing uniformity in education providing universal access to quality education, improving the quality of elementary education, through a new national curriculum framework that focuses on multi-linguistic, 21st-century skills, integration of sport and art, environmental issues, etc.

“There is an emphasis on the use of technology. However, the ministry is preparing a strategy separately to deal with it,” said an official.

Indian Government’s attempts to keep the education up and about are no doubt appreciated. The question is will MHRD be able to manage to come through with a better solution in these testing times since nobody in the education sector was prepared for a situation like this?
