NCTE Relaxes Curriculum Criteria
NCTE has made a proposal that allows candidates to apply for the four-year integrated teacher-training programme right after completion of Class 12.
The HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar stated that the curriculum prepared for the four-year integrated teacher education programme should not be made mandatory for the institutions seeking recognition for the same programme.
Instead, the proposed curriculum is confined to being a “model for emulation by the teacher education institution.”
The ministry had made the move as it believes that most institutes won’t be able to fulfil the requirements and hence unable to qualify for recognition under the norms.
The National Council for Teacher Education had developed the proposed syllabus for the new four-year integrated BEd courses.
The HRD ministry expected the four-year degree to save one year of students; they could pursue the course immediately after their class XII examination. Now, a student is required to complete a Bachelor’s degree before pursuing a degree in education. The new integrated BEd programme requires educational institutes offering the course to have better training facilities as well as better infrastructure for the students.
The proposal has made it possible for candidates to apply for the four-year integrated teacher-training programme right after completion of Class 12.
