Jawahar Higher Secondary School (CBSE), Neyveli continued its golden run in IIT-JEE performance. This year, 25 out of 62 students cleared the IIT-JEE (advanced) examinations with an impressive success ratio of 1:2.48 which translates into 2 out of every 5 students cracked the exam.

20% of the achievers were girls which is an impressive 5 girls. All the students are set to join the IITs, India’s premier technical education institutes. The school boasts of the highest success rate in the state at the IIT-JEE, claimed Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) chairman and MD S K Acharya, who is also the chief patron of Neyveli Jawahar education society, which established the school along with Neyveli Telugu Samithi educational academy.

Last year too, the school performance shone brightly with 21 of the 51 students clearing the exam. The best performance dished out so far was in 2013 when 38 of the 59 students emerged successful.

Elated over the consistent good performance, Acharya felicitated the successful students, the school principal N Yashoda and vice-principal M Sethumani and members of Neyveli Telugu Samithi educational academy, which organises special coaching classes for the students to clear the competitive examinations.

The students credited their success to the systematic coaching extended by the school management. "The 2-year intensive coaching at the school helped us to clear the examinations. Experts from various parts of the country guided us through video conferencing facilities to successfully prepare for the examinations," said G Sanath Balaji, who stood 3775 in the country.

Patrick George, who stood 4177 in the country, has his eyes set on a computer science engineering degree. "I hope to join computer science engineering at IIT in Hyderabad or Tripathi or Ropar," said Patrick, son of M George Joseph, a manager at South Indian Bank and Lucymole Chacko, chief manager at NLC.

Set up in 2005 with just 13 students, the school has been consistently faring well in the competitive examinations. The distinguishing feature of the educational academy was that it established an integrated coaching centre in the school itself that is well equipped to train the students for the competitive exam. The coaching academy invites experts from across the country to train students via video conferencing. Additionally, it also engaged an institution specializing in IIT-JEE training, 'Altitude Classes', to guide the students.
