As part of their campaign #rightstart, Early Childhood Association (ECA) has listed a 10-point guideline for preschools in India to adhere to while conducting admissions. “The guidelines also include the various guidelines that were listed by the Government after certain accidents took place in schools; however, preschools failed to follow these. We’ll make sure that the preschools in India follow these guidelines for delivering quality education.” said Dr.Swati Popat Vats, President, Early Childhood Association (India).

The campaign aims at helping parents pick the right preschool for their child. “We started the campaign a month ago. Since then, we’ve been urging preschools across the nation to comply with the guidelines as mentioned by the association” she added.

The preschool chains who have agreed to comply with the guidelines include:

“We have teamed up with three mommy blogs including BabyChakra, UNIMO and Firstmomsclub with the goal of involving the parent community and spreading awareness to every one of them.” Dr. Swati said on reaching out to parents. It’ll help parents to choose the right preschool while they can also help keep a check by reporting the preschool that’s breaking any guideline.

The guidelines are universal and can be applied by all preschools. For example, the 50 preschools agree strongly on eliminating admission interview. The guidelines play a dual role and both preschools as well as parents should follow them. “The aim behind creating these guidelines is to make preschools more safety and quality conscious; we need to make sure that the activities are developmentally appropriate for the young children” Dr. Swati explained.

“Parents admit their children in preschools at a very young age. It is their right to be assured about the quality of the preschool they have trusted. Compliance with the guidelines will help preschools provide a safe environment to children.” she added.

We at ScooNews asked Dr. Swati if there’s any fine for preschools who fail to comply with the guidelines; she answered “The biggest fine for any preschool is losing admissions. The customer who is the parent is aware and that works much better than any other fine. The guidelines will make the consumer the quality auditor. ”

She further said, “we’ll also start posting aggressively on our website the preschools who are and who aren’t complying with the guidelines.”

While concluding, Dr. Swati Popat Vats said, “Currently, the campaign is the strongest in states like Gujarat and  Maharashtra. We’re steadily going to bring changes in other states as well and make this campaign a success. Ultimately, our goal is to bring quality conscience in the preschools as well as the parent community.”
