Children pick up many life-long skills, traits and attitudes from school as they spend the most formative and impressionable years there. That’s why it is heartening to see that schools are spending time and effort in sensitising our children towards the environment in particular and society in general. Here are a few examples of some of the stellar work that schools are doing today.
Shriman Babubhai Kapadia English Medium School celebrates environmentally significant days like World Water Day, World Sparrow Day and World forestry Day. Students, principal, teachers, peons and parents took an oath to save water and the children did their bit to spread the message, 'Water is Life, Save Water' to society. Children were encouraged to plant more trees on the occasion of World Forestry Day.
Fravashi International Academy (FIA) students kickstarted its traditional "Save Sparrow Soccer League" for the fourth consecutive year on World Sparrow Day. The event is dedicated towards saving the little sparrow from extinction. All the 10 teams that participated are named after various species of sparrows. This tournament hopes to raise awareness among people and children about the condition of the sparrow.
Space International School celebrated Holi with foot-tapping dance performances and message to save water. Chief Guest Guruji Prahalad Bhawsar & Dr Anand Bhawsar, cosmic healer encouraged the students and appreciated them for creating awareness amongst the public for playing a dry holi and only using eco-friendly colours.
It is heart warming to see schools adopting environmental days to not only create awareness but also engage the students creatively and physically in explaining the importance of this day. We hope that schools across the country and the world will take a leaf out of this and work towards nurturing socially and environmentally responsible future citizens.
