Keerthi, a girl who lived in a village on the outskirts of Bangalore with her mother and three brothers knew her life could have been exactly like her mother's: An early marriage, household chores, responsibility of children and remaining time in the local stone quarry. Because that's what she has seen, that's what happens mostly with the girls in village.

But her mother saw the dedication her daughter had. She wanted a different life for her. She took her to a special school for poor children in India. With the help of an organization, 'She's the First', Keerthi got the best education. She gained confidence in herself and proved that knowledge, through any source is useful. The organization,'She's the First' provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries with the goal of creating first-generation graduates and our next generation of global leaders.

With all the progress that we are making, we know that majority of India still resides in the rural areas. In villages, even now, boys' education is the priority over girls'. Even now, the girls are married and sent off to take care of the house at an early age. It is only the determination to study and dream big, that lets girls achieve something in life.

Keerthi aspires to become a computer engineer and help her family with whatever she earns.
