April 24-30 is marked as World Immunization Week. Immunization is one of the most successful and cost-effective means to help children grow into healthy adults. We have made enormous progress, but one in five children is still not being reached.
World Immunization Week is a global public health campaign to raise awareness and increase rates of immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases around the world. It takes place each year during last week of April.
Immunization is one of the most successful and cost-effective means to help children grow into healthy adults. We have made enormous progress, but one in five children is still not being reached. In addition, too many adolescents and adults are not receiving the vaccines they need to help them stay healthy throughout life. It’s time to close the gap!
This will be the second year of the Close the Immunization Gap campaign, which celebrates the enormous successes to date in reaching children all over the world with life-saving vaccines while also stressing the challenges we still face.
The 2016 campaign additionally stresses the need for immunization among adolescents and adults – throughout life. And seeks to draw the world’s attention to the critical importance of reaching vulnerable people living in conflict situations or in the wake of emergencies.
